Pirates Move Three Points Clear Of Sundowns After Big Win

Orlando Pirates produced one of their biggest performances of the season as they hammered Siwelele 5–0 in a top-of-the-table clash in the DStv Diski Challenge at UJ Soweto Stadium on Saturday.
The Buccaneers came into the match looking to bounce back from disappointing results, having suffered a defeat against Golden Arrows last weekend, a result that saw them level on 48 points with Mamelodi Sundowns and only three points ahead of Siwelele.
However, Pirates responded in emphatic fashion as their dominant victory ensured they remained at the summit of the standings. The win moved the Buccaneers to 51 points, three points ahead of Sundowns and six points clear of Siwelele in the reserve league title race.
Sundowns, however, are yet to play their fixture and will have an opportunity to respond when they face Orbit College on Sunday at Olympia Stadium.
In other matches played on Saturday, the defending champions Kaizer Chiefs were held to a 1–1 draw by Golden Arrows at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
Meanwhile, there was plenty of entertainment at Idas Valley Stadium where Stellenbosch and TS Galaxy played out a thrilling 4–4 draw.
Elsewhere, Marumo Gallants secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Durban City at CUT Stadium, while Polokwane City claimed a 2–1 win against Sekhukhune United at Isak Steyl Stadium.
The reserve league action continues on Sunday with more fixtures scheduled across the country. Magesi FC will face Chippa United at Seshego Stadium, while AmaZulu FC will take on Richards Bay FC at Princess Magogo Stadium in the KwaZulu-Natal derby.
