Pirates Survive With Late Goal In Thrilling  Draw In the DDC

The DStv Diski Challenge began with thrilling matches that took place in Mpumalanga Stadium in a festival-style format on Saturday.

The first game of the day saw the KZN Derby, where Richards Bay beat Golden Arrows 3-1. Mbulelo Nombengula and Wandile Ngema, who scored a brace, netted the goals for the Natal Rich Boyz, while Siyabonga Khumalo scored the only goal for Abafana Bes’Thende.

In the last game of the day at Mpumalanga Stadium, Durban City and Orlando Pirates played out a 3-3 draw.

City dominated the first half, leading 3-1, thanks to Lindokuhle Chonco’s hat-trick, the first of the season.

However, the Buccaneers staged a remarkable comeback in the second half, with Moses Mphekgoane scoring in the first half for the Buccaneers, and Samukelo Zikala and Cristian Derbyshire scoring in the second half, with Derbyshire netting the equalizer in stoppage time.

Pirates was helped after City captain Odwa Nyulu was sent off, and the Soweto Giants capitalised on that.

In other matches in other venues, the Limpopo Derby between Magesi and Sekhukhune United ended 1-1 at Seshego Stadium. Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants beat TS Galaxy 3-2 at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

The PSL reserve league will continue on Sunday with more thrilling matches at Mpumalanga Stadium.

AmaZulu will face Stellenbosch at 13:00, while the defending champions Kaizer Chiefs will take on Orbit College at 15:00.

Polokwane City will host Chippa United at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, and Mamelodi Sundowns will host Siwelele at Tuks Stadium, both at 10:00.
