Pyramids Coach Wary Of Pirates’ Away Form In CAFCL

Pyramids FC coach Krunoslav Juricic says they are aware of the threat posed by Orlando Pirates away from home in the CAF Champions League ahead of the two sides’ meeting for the second leg of their semi-final clash on Friday (20:00).

The two teams played to a goalless draw at the FNB Stadium in the first leg of the tie last Saturday, leaving the crucial return leg at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo open to all possibilities with a spot in the final at stake.

Ambitious mega rich Pyramids, who fell short to RS Berkane in the 2019/20 CAF Confederations Cup final, aim to become the fifth Egyptian club to reach the final of Africa’s premier club competition in their first-ever knockout stage appearance and second participation in the competition.

The Croatian tactician made a promise to the club’s supporters that he will guide the team to the final, with all the players, including experienced attacking midfielder Ramadan Sobhi, who has been declared fit after being an unused substitute in the first leg, raring to go.

“We promise the fans a better match in Cairo, and we will strive to take advantage of every opportunity to score and qualify for the final,” Jurisic said in the pre-match press conference.

“We are in excellent shape in terms of physical and technical readiness, and all the players are fully prepared for the match. We are keen to achieve victory and continue our historic journey in the tournament.”

While he is optimistic about his team’s chances of sealing progression to the final, Juricic acknowledges the Soweto giants’ form on the road as Jose Riveiro’s men have already claimed notable scalps in North Africa at the expense of CR Belouizdad, Al Ahly and MC Alger respectively.

“I respect Orlando Pirates’ strength away from home and their results against Al Ahly and MC Alger, but we also have a strong home record, having gone undefeated and achieved consecutive victories, and we will build on this positive point in this match,” he added.

It remains to be seen who will reign supreme between the two teams eager to write a new chapter in their history. The winner of this match will face either defending champions Al Ahly or Mamelodi Sundowns in the deciding match for continental glory in the two-legged final later next month.
