Richards Bay Bolsters Attack With Kutumela Signing

Richards Bay, aiming to build a competitive squad for next season, has signed former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Thabiso Kutumela.

Kutumela joins the Natal Rich Boyz after his release from Sundowns following a loan spell at Cape Town City last season. Bay lacked a proven center-forward last season, relying on Yanela Mbuthuma and the inconsistent Kuda Myaba (who arrived mid-season).

While Mbuthuma offered hold-up play and even scored in the PSL promotion/relegation playoffs, Richards Bay sought a more prolific option.

Kutumela boasts a trophy cabinet including two league titles, a Nedbank Cup, and an MTN8 during his four years at Sundowns (one spent on loan). He was signed by Sundowns from Maritzburg United in the 2021/22 season in a big money move.

The club will officially unveil Kutumela alongside former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe and ex-SuperSport United defender Keegan Allan on Wednesday as they were first reported by Farpost. Additionally, a new sponsorship deal will be announced, providing much-needed financial backing.

These signings signify Richards Bay’s ambitions for the upcoming season. They aim to avoid the relegation scrap they faced last season and establish themselves in the DStv Premiership.
