Cape Town City Confirms Player Departures

Cape Town City has confirmed the departure of five players following the conclusion of the season.

Thabiso Kutumela returns to Mamelodi Sundowns after his loan spell at City concludes.

The club has also released Jo Paciencia, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Bongani Mpandle, and Khanya Leshabela.

Pacincia, signed at the beginning of the season, managed only two goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Mokhuoane, acquired from Free State Stars in the 2021/22 season, featured in 58 matches with just one goal.

Mpandle, signed from Maritzburg United in the same season, struggled to dislodge Darren Keet as the starting goalkeeper. He was initially released but then brought back before the start of this season. Despite this, he played only one league game (a loss to AmaZulu) last term and featured in two during his time at the club.

Kutumela, returning to Sundowns on loan after featuring in 28 matches and scoring three goals for City, may find regular playing time difficult to secure.

Leshabela, a player with Leicester City’s development experience and even an FA Cup win (2020/21 season) under his belt, joined City in the January transfer window. He made nine appearances, including the historic City victory against Mamelodi Sundowns in the final game of the season.

“We would like to thank all the departing players and wish them the very best in their future endeavors,” said City in a statement.

These departures likely stem from Eric Tinkler’s frustration with the team’s 11-game winless run. It was evident that the former Bafana Bafana midfielder would make changes to the squad.
