Richards Bay Sign Uganda International

Richards Bay have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Uganda international Joel Madondo, who joins the club from Eswatini side Nsingizini Hotspurs.

Madondo becomes Bay’s second acquisition of the January transfer window, following the arrival of former Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu and Golden Arrows defender Thembela Sikhakhane.

The 27-year-old striker is understood to have signed a two-year contract with the Natal Rich Boys.

Madondo arrives at a time when Richards Bay are in need of goals, having scored just 12 and conceded 14 in the Betway Premiership so far this season. His signing also comes as Gabadinho Mhango remains sidelined with injury, with no clear timeline on when the Malawi international will return to action.

Madondo becomes the second Ugandan player at the club, joining goalkeeper Salim Magoola.

In the central attacking role, he will compete for places with Knox Mutizwa, Lundi Mahala and Olwethu Mbambo, in addition to Mhango once he returns.

The KwaZulu-Natal-based side, coached by the trio of Papi Zothwane, Siboniso Gumede and Ronnie Gabriel, currently sit ninth on the Betway Premiership table with 18 points from 15 matches.

Should all his paperwork be finalised in time, Madondo could make his debut in Friday’s KZN derby against Golden Arrows at Umhlathuze Sports Ground.
