Riveiro Hints At Rotations Amid Busy Schedule

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has indicated that he will rotate his starting lineup in the coming weeks due to the congested fixture list, including the MTN8 final.

Despite having found a preferred starting XI in recent matches, Riveiro believes it’s essential to give other players opportunities to contribute.

The Pirates boss has praised the consistency shown by his starting eleven, which has included Sipho Chaine in goal, Olisa Ndah, Thabiso Sesane, Deon Hotto, Thabiso Monyane/Deano van Rooyen in defense, Thalente Mbatha and Makhehlene Makhaula in midfield, Patrick Maswanganyi and Relebohile Mofokeng and Monnapule Saleng on the wings, and Tshegofatso Mabasa up front.

However, Riveiro recognizes the need to manage the workload of his players, especially with the upcoming CAF Champions League second leg against Jwaneng Galaxy and league matches against Polokwane City and Richards Bay.

“Right now, as you can see, we have managed to repeat the same starting eleven, it was pretty much the same in Botswana (in the first leg of the Champions League against Jwaneng) and it was Thabiso Monyane who started, if I’m not wrong,” said Riveiro.

“I think it is important that we get that consistency in the starting line when things are getting in the way that we want in the team and the mixture. But at the same time, we need to introduce (other) players because we are playing every two or three days now.”

Riveiro emphasized that the club has a deep squad and that everyone will have a chance to contribute. He also highlighted the importance of players being ready to perform when called upon.

“With this congestion of games, we’re playing Jwaneng on Saturday, next week we have two games again – Polokwane City and Richards Bay and we have to prepare for the final. So, probably in these upcoming games, there is going to be variations in the starting XI and new faces as well.”

Pirates will face Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 final at the sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium on 5 October.
