Santos Opens Up About Champions League Experience

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Nuno Santos has shared his thoughts on transitioning from playing in the UEFA competitions to the CAF Champions League.
The Portuguese attacker joined the South African giants from the Liga Portugal side Victoria SC in August, bringing with him experience from the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League.
Since joining the 2016 African champions, Santos has made four appearances in the CAF Champions League, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
In an interview with Mamelodi Sundowns’ digital magazine, Santos described playing in Africa’s top club competition as an incredible experience.
“Playing in Africa’s top competition is an incredible experience,” he said.
“The intensity, the atmosphere, and the travel are completely different, but also inspiring. To be part of a win that made history for the club was unbelievable.
“When I scored that first goal (in the Champions League), I thought about everyone who believed in me, and that motivated me to want to do even more for this club.”
The former Victoria midfielder also opened up about what it means to be a Sundowns player.
“It feels amazing to be a Mamelodi Sundowns player and be part of this amazing family,” Santos added.
“Not every player gets to wear the colours of a club with such a rich legacy and ambition.
“It is something special, and you can feel the history, the passion, and the expectations the moment you walk into Chloorkop. It inspires you to give your best every single day.”
Santos’ next challenge with Sundowns will be against Al-Hilal in the CAF Champions League, which will take place after the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
The Portuguese midfielder will be looking to continue impressing in the tournament and help his team achieve success.
