Shalulile: Nedbank Final Won’t Be The Same As MTN8

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile is confident his team will deliver a different performance compared to their last encounter with Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday (15:00).

Sundowns dominated possession but fell short in the MTN8 final back in October, losing 3-1 on penalties. Shalulile himself missed a clear scoring opportunity, mirroring the struggles of teammate Themba Zwane. Coach Rulani Mokwena expressed his disappointment after the missed chances.

“They beat us last time, that’s football,” said Shalulile. “But this final is completely different. We want to get the job done. We know we’re a good team with a great coach, and we’ll give it our all to convert every chance we get.”

Sundowns are chasing a unique treble after claiming the DStv Premiership title for the seventh consecutive season and the African Football League in November. Pirates, on the other hand, are aiming for a second consecutive double, following their Wafa Wafa Cup and Nedbank Cup wins last season.

This final features the top two finishers from the league table, setting the stage for a thrilling encounter.

“It is our culture in the team,” said Zwane, one of the few remaining players from Sundowns’ 2016 CAF Champions League triumph.

“It is very important for us to get this trophy because as a team we just want to finish on a high and that is what we told ourselves. We are going to the game with a positive mind, try to win the game.”
