Solomons On Chiefs Stay: It’s Been A Difficult One

Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons has reflected on his stay at Naturena, describing it as a difficult one. The player is currently in his third season with the club and is approaching the final year of his contract.
The 28-year-old signed for Amakhosi in the 2022/23 season from Moroka Swallows and has so far managed to make 53 appearances across all competitions for the club with one goal and four assists in the process.
However, Solomons’ stay with Chiefs has been injury-ravaged with multiple injuries prohibiting him from establishing himself as a first-choice starter in the right full-back position, in addition to stiff competition in his place.
The Western Cape-born player opened up on his ongoing stint with the Soweto giants, further stating that he’s in good condition and ready to stake his claim under Nasreddine Nabi after enduring tough spells on the sidelines.
“It’s been a difficult one, obviously this season I’ve been hit with a lot of injuries, coming back just at the start of the season with a shoulder [injury] and dealing with a hamstring problem, but for now I feel healthy, I feel good,” Solomons said.
“Good preparation going every week, not just going to training and going home, there’s a lot of preparation that goes into keeping my body in good shape.
“I want to turn things around for myself, put in the work every day, and when I’m healthy, I feel good, I can help the team. So, that’s the way I see it, obviously I would have hoped for a lot more [playing time], but I stay with what’s put out for me, I can only deal with what I’m dealt with.”
On the team’s result in their last league outing against Chippa United, where they were held to a goalless draw and stretched their winless run in the Betway Premiership to five games, Solomons says the Glamour Boys are better than what the result reflected.
“After the draw [against Chippa United], we weren’t really happy with the result and how we played. We know that we are better than what we showed in PE [Gqeberha], but I mean those games are not easy, going to PE is not an easy job,” he added.
“But we knew we could have been better and create more chances, so as players, we had a conversation about how we want to go forward and what this means for us as players. We got into the [Nedbank Cup] final, but that’s further on; it’s only on the 10th of May.
“For us we only have to focus on the games before that [final] and there’s a lot of big games coming our way, so that was the discussion [we had] and hopefully this week in training we will be putting in the work and get the result that we need at the weekend.”
Chiefs will host Marumo host Marumo Gallants at the FNB Stadium in their next league outing on Saturday (15:00). Nabi’s men are in eighth place with 31 points gathered after 25 matches as they aim to register a top-eight finish.
