South African Analyst Joins Kabylie In Algeria

One of South Africa’s rising football analysts, Tshepo Mahao, has flown to Algeria to take up a position with JS Kabylie.

Mahao, who departed two weeks ago, will work alongside former Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer, who joined the Algerian side earlier this year.

Zinnbauer had a season-and-a-half spell with Pirates, winning the MTN8 in the 2020/21 season when they defeated Bloemfontein Celtic in Durban.

By working in Algeria, Mahao joins another South African coach, Rulani Mokwena, who was recently appointed as assistant coach at MC Alger and will work with Wendell Robinson.

Khanyisa Mayo is also currently in Algeria, playing for CR Belouizdad under former TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic, whose team finished third in the league last term.

Mahao has extensive experience as an analyst, having previously worked at Polokwane City, Royal AM, TS Galaxy, and AmaZulu, which he left at the end of last season. At Kabylie, Mahoa will continue in his role as a performance analyst, a position he has held throughout his career.

Under former Pirates coach Zinnbauer, Kabylie will compete in the CAF Champions League next season after finishing second in the league last term. This will provide Mahao with broader exposure in North African football.

Kabylie has an impressive trophy cabinet, having won the Algerian league title 14 times, the Coupe Nationale five times, and the CAF Champions League twice. It’s also the same club that lost to Orlando Pirates in the CAF Super Cup in 1996.

Pirates played that match in Cape Town after winning the CAF Champions League, while Kabylie had won the CAF Confederation Cup in the same year.
