South African Appointed As Head Coach Of Botswana FA
South African coach Morena Ramoreboli has been appointed as the interim head coach of Botswana.
Botswana sought a new coach following the departure of Didier Gomes, despite his successful tenure leading the Zebras to six points in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Botswana currently sits second in Group C, trailing only Egypt, who has already secured qualification.
With a strong chance to qualify for the AFCON for the second time in their history, Botswana has turned to Ramoreboli, a respected figure in Botswanan football. He has twice won the league title with Jwaneng Galaxy and guided the Botswana side to the CAF Champions League in recent seasons.
“Botswana Football Association wishes to express its unwavering support to the senior men’s national team’s course as they attempt to make their second appearance at the top table of the African football, the AFCON. Mr. Ramoreboli and his technical team have a single-minded focus on giving us the best possible chance of going to Morocco AFCON 2025,” BFA said in a statement.
Ramoreboli’s first game in charge for the Zebras will be when they host Mauritania, who are on three points and sitting at the bottom, before concluding the qualifiers against Egypt. They need just one win in these two matches to qualify for the AFCON finals.
Ramoreboli previously led Bafana Bafana B to the Cosafa Cup title in 2021, achieving a clean sheet throughout the tournament, and also secured a bronze medal last year.
