Stellenbosch Bolsters Defense With Belgian Centre-Back

Stellenbosch FC has signed Belgian centre-back Henri Stanic from Maltese Premier League side Balzan Football Club.

The acquisition addresses a crucial need for Stellies following the departure of Ismail Toure to Bayinas in the United Arab Emirates, where Toure was a key component of the team’s defense.

The club has a big matter next season with the inclusion of the CAF Confederation Cup.

“Stellenbosch is delighted to announce the acquisition of Belgian centre-back Henri Stanic on a permanent transfer from Maltese Premier League side Balzan Football Club,” the club stated.

“The 22-year-old joins Stellies on the back of an impressive season in which he not only starred defensively for Balzan but also aided the club’s cause with five goals in 28 league appearances.”

Interestingly, during his time at Balzan FC, Stanic played alongside South African Olympian Tercious Malepe, who is well-known for his stints with Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu, Richards Bay, and Moroka Swallows.

Stanic expressed his enthusiasm after joining Stellenbosch’s pre-season camp in Johannesburg. “I’m very grateful and excited to be here,” he said. “The team has already welcomed me very well, and I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”

He highlighted the club’s vision as a major draw. “The project at Stellenbosch FC is what attracted me to come to South Africa. I spoke to several people at the club, and I really like the project that is being worked on. I’m also looking forward to playing in the domestic championship [the Betway Premiership] and to showcasing my talent in the country. I will fight for the badge and give 100% for the team. I am still young, and I have ambitions that I hope to achieve with the club.”

Stanic, who began his career in the renowned development structures of Anderlecht and previously had spells in Norway and Latvia, is now eager to make his mark on the African continent. “It will also be my first time playing in a big competition like the CAF Confederation Cup,” he added. “Last season, Stellenbosch reached the semi-finals, and I believe we can do even better this time around.”

Stanic joins Siviwe Nkwali and Muzomuhle Khanyi as new signings for Stellenbosch FC ahead of the upcoming season.
