Stellenbosch Confirm Second Signing
Stellenbosch has officially announced the signing of defender Siviwe Nkwali from Cape Town Spurs.
This move was previously reported by Sportswire in May, which revealed that Stellies had secured the young defender who helped Amajita (South Africa’s U/20 national team) clinch the U/20 Africa Cup of Nations a few months ago.
Nkwali is the second player signed by Stellies in this transfer window. He joins Muzomuhle Khanyi, last season’s top scorer in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, who arrived from Hungry Lions.
The 20-year-old Nkwali joins Stellies as a free agent ahead of the next season. This comes as a direct consequence of Spurs’ relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to amateur football.
In an official statement, Stellenbosch FC expressed their delight: “Stellenbosch FC is delighted to announce that the club has acquired the services of defender Siviwe Nkwali on a long-term contract. The 20-year-old, who was most recently on the books of Cape Town Spurs, arrives on the back of a successful year in which he helped South Africa win the U-20 CAF Africa Cup of Nations for the first time.”
During Amajita’s victorious U/20 AFCON campaign, Nkwali featured in all seven matches, securing a sweet revenge for their loss against Morocco 28 years ago in 1997.
Nkwali shared his excitement about joining the club: “I’m very happy to be here and grateful to Stellenbosch FC for giving me an opportunity to once again showcase my talents. Stellenbosch has been a top-three club in the past few seasons, and I hope to help the team continue to compete in the league and push for more silverware. I will put in 110% for the team and fight for this badge, and I can’t wait for the season to get started.”
The club also confirmed that Nkwali will wear the No. 14 jersey for Stellenbosch during the 2025-26 season.
