Inaugural Social Runners Proved To Be A Success In Durban

The first-ever Social Runners Run powered by Openserve, held on Saturday, 28 June 2025, made an exciting debut on KwaZulu-Natal’s running calendar.
Hosting the race on a Saturday was a brave move—especially in a city where Sunday runs are the norm—but it paid off in a big way.
The Durban running community embraced the change, and the event turned out exceptionally well.
More than 2,000 runners took to the streets of Durban in crisp, cool weather—ideal conditions that helped many participants achieve personal bests on the fast, flat course. Starting and finishing at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, the 21km, 10km, and Celebrity Fun 5km races showcased Durban’s scenic beauty and vibrant spirit.
The Celebrity Fun 5km brought a lively mix of local pride and star power, with former Sharks rugby players, Dolphins cricket team members, and personalities from TV, radio, and social media joining the run.
Their presence energised the crowd and highlighted the event’s focus on health, fitness, and community.
The route was praised for its speed and accessibility, with elite athletes and social runners alike commending the layout. Water points were well managed, and the overall organisation was top-notch.
While the final turn presented a small challenge, the team handled it smoothly, ensuring a seamless experience for all.
The Openserve Chill Zone, featuring a Move Class and a 360-degree photo booth, created a festive post-race vibe that brought runners and supporters together. The finish area at Moses Mabhida Stadium added to the excitement, leaving participants energised and inspired.
“We’re thrilled with how this year’s race turned out,” said the event organisers.
“The amazing turnout, perfect running weather, and the incredible energy from our runners and sponsors made it a day to remember. We’re already planning to make next year’s event even bigger!”
A heartfelt thank you goes to our sponsors: Openserve, Tsogo Sun – Suncoast, Aquellé, Easybet, and Ifelom, whose support helped bring this vision to life. We also extend our thanks to Social Runners Club, Prime HPI, Durban Base Entertainment, and Moses Mabhida Stadium for their partnership in making the event a success.
This race is set to become one of the fastest and most exciting 21km events in Durban, blending athletic excellence with community spirit.
