“We Need A Dog Mentality” – Aubaas On What It Takes To End Sundowns’ CAF Title Drought

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bathusi Aubaas has called for a “monster mentality” to end the club’s CAF Champions League drought.

Sundowns have reached back-to-back Champions League finals under Miguel Cardoso after eliminating Espérance de Tunis 2–0 on aggregate in the semifinals at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

They lost last season’s final to Pyramids but now have another opportunity as they prepare to face Botola Pro 1 side AS FAR, who progressed with a 2–1 aggregate victory over RS Berkane.

Aubaas spoke about the significance of potentially ending the club’s continental title drought.

“Obviously, I would be very happy,” said Aubaas.

“For us to get there, we need to stay humble, work hard, and respect the opponent both off and on the pitch. On the field, we must bring a strong, aggressive mentality.”

Aubaas also expressed his excitement about reaching another final in the competition.

“I’m very happy. It’s back-to-back finals—our second in a row. For the coach, it’s his third final, so everyone is excited, and I’m happy as well,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sundowns will shift their focus back to the Betway Premiership, where they will host Stellenbosch at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday.

The Chloorkop-based side currently sits second in the standings with 56 points, two behind Orlando Pirates, but with two games in hand.
