Mamelodi Sundowns defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil could be returning to Morocco as Wydad Athletic Club reportedly eyes his signature.

Wydad recently appointed former Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena, who departed after leading the South African club to domestic and continental glory, including a win over Wydad itself in the CAF Champions League final.

Mokwena, tasked with reviving Wydad after a disappointing season, reportedly has full control over new signings to bolster the squad.

Boutouil is familiar with Mokwena, as he joined Sundowns in September 2022 from Morocco’s SCC Mohammedia FC after helping his country win the 2020 CHAN tournament. Since arriving, he’s secured two league titles and the African Football League with the Brazilians.

Despite his trophy haul, Boutouil’s playing time dipped last season, with only eight league appearances. However, his contributions, including six appearances in Sundowns’ victorious AFL League campaign, seem to have caught Wydad’s attention.
