Sundowns Ponders Loan Move For Struggling Basadien

Mamelodi Sundowns is rumoured to be considering loaning out Fawaz Basadien in the January transfer window, Sportswire has learned.

The 28-year-old defender, who joined the Brazilians at the start of the season from Stellenbosch, has struggled to find game time under coach Miguel Cardoso.

Despite being a regular player and vice-captain at his previous club, Basadien has found it tough to break into the Sundowns team.

The Bafana Bafana defender made his Sundowns debut in August as a right-back, rather than his preferred left-back position, and has since lost his place in the side and also with Bafana Bafana.

However, recent developments have seen him included in the preliminary squad for the AFCON 2025 by coach Hugo Broos.

According to insiders, Sundowns is keen to secure a loan move in January for Basadien to get some much-needed game time.

“Basadien is also facing the same issue as Jayden Adams, as he is also facing tough competition from (Aubrey) Modiba and (Devine) Lunga,” a source close to Sundowns revealed to Sportswire.

“The coach also considers Asekho Tiwani as the third choice, that’s why he wants to loan Basadien in January to get game time.”

Sundowns has placed Basadien on the transfer market and is open to loan talks in January, joining his teammates Jayden Adams and Lebo Mothiba, who have also been put on the transfer market for loan.

While no club has been identified for Basadien to join on loan, it appears that the defender’s future lies elsewhere, at least for the remainder of the season.

The move would be a surprise to many, given Basadien’s talent and potential. However, with limited game time and competition from other players, it seems that Sundowns are willing to give him a chance to revive his career elsewhere.
