Mothiba’s Future At Sundowns Hangs In The Balance

Mamelodi Sundowns are considering a loan move for Lebo Mothiba, with the upcoming January transfer window shaping up to be a make-or-break period for the talented striker.

Mothiba has been struggling for game time at Sundowns since the season started, as coach Miguel Cardoso has preferred to start with Iqraam Rayners and Peter Shalulile.

With the signing of Portuguese attacker Miguel Reisinho, things have looked tough for Mothiba, as Cardoso plans to use Arthur Sales as both winger and striker.

Reisinho seems to have taken Sales’ role, as was the case against Eloi Lupopop in the CAF Champions League group stage match, which affects Mothiba as well, and the Brazilians also have young striker Bennett Mokoena from the DStv Diski Challenge, who is being included in the match-day squad at times.

According to Sportswire’s sources close to the club, Sundowns has placed Mothiba on the loan market, joining fellow teammate Jayden Adams, who is also up for grabs in the upcoming transfer window.

Mothiba joined Sundowns in March this year on a short-term deal after parting ways with French team Strasbourg at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Despite having his contract renewed for this season, Sundowns seems to be re-evaluating his role in the team. With no specific club identified for his loan, Sundowns is willing to consider offers from PSL clubs looking to bolster their squads.
