Zwane Praises AmaZulu Resilience As Ngwenya’s Goals Keep Coming
AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane expressed delight at his side’s strong start to the season, admitting it has been deeply pleasing to see Usuthu consistently grind out victories.
Usuthu climbed to second in the Betway Premiership standings with 13 points from five matches after securing a 1-0 win over bottom-placed Marumo Gallants at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday.
In-form striker Thando Ngwenya was the hero once again, flinging himself at the back post to convert his seventh league goal of the campaign and consolidate his position atop the PSL goalscoring charts.
The victory leaves AmaZulu level on points with Orlando Pirates, who retain second spot on goal difference with a game in hand.
Despite collecting all three points against Gallants, Zwane insisted his side still has higher gears to reach.
“I must give the boys credit when it comes to grinding out results,” said Zwane. “However, I know we could have done better.
“We set ourselves high standards in terms of performance, and this is one game we want to quickly put behind us. On a positive note, though, we are keeping our momentum going and continuing to win matches.”
Usuthu now turn their attention to a road trip against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Rise and Shine enter the clash following an impressive 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs at the same venue last weekend.
“Now we turn our focus to Polokwane City away, and they are coming off a good draw,” Zwane added.
“They are a tough customer and never an easy team to play against. Gaining that point against Chiefs will give them confidence, and they will make life difficult for us. We have to go out there and exert ourselves much better than we did on Saturday.”
