Seema Reveals Why Chiefs Duo Are Struggling For Game Time

Siwelele coach Lehlohonolo Seema says the reason Kaizer Chiefs duo Happy Mashiane and Samkelo Zwane are currently not featuring is because they are not yet match fit, having lacked game time at the Soweto giants before their loan move.

Both players joined Siwelele on season-long loans before the transfer window closed.

Zwane has not featured in Siwelele’s last two matches, including the 2-0 defeat to AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. The 23-year-old has made only four appearances in all competitions and will need to impress during his loan spell, as his Chiefs contract expires at the end of the season.

Mashiane, meanwhile, has missed Siwelele’s last five matches, with his most recent appearance coming against Marumo Gallants in September.

Seema, whose side saw their two-match winning streak end with the loss to AmaZulu, said the pair are still adjusting because they arrived without sufficient minutes under their belts at Chiefs.

“Where they came from, they were not playing,” Seema explained.

“There’s no team that will give you an active player who is ready to start the next day. We’re still working with them, and they remain part of the squad. They are working hard and are very positive. We selected the squad we felt was right for the AmaZulu game.

“Anytime soon you could see them playing, but it has been difficult for them to walk straight into the team because they were not playing at Chiefs. It takes time to adapt and build relationships on the field. They are our players, and you will see them play because they are putting in the effort.”

The situation is similar for Zakhele Lepasa, who, like Mashiane, has missed Siwelele’s last five matches in all competitions. Lepasa joined the club after being released at the end of last season, having not played a single match in the 2024/25 campaign due to injury.

Siwelele are currently 12th on the Betway Premiership table with 14 points from 13 matches.

Their next fixture is at home against Chippa United at Dr Molemela Stadium on 29 November.
