Sundowns To Face Bellingham In Club World Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to face Jude Bellingham’s brother, Jobe Bellingham, in the FIFA Club World Cup in the coming days.

Jobe Bellingham has been signed by Borussia Dortmund, with the German club having handed the 19-year-old a new contract.

The Bundesliga giants, who reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2024, seemingly took advantage of a special FIFA transfer window for clubs participating in the FIFA Club World Cup, which ran from 1-10 June, to acquire new players.

However, unlike many clubs globally that made new signings during this period, Mamelodi Sundowns did not, and they will begin the expanded tournament without any new additions to their squad.

Jobe is following in the footsteps of his elder brother, Jude, who joined Dortmund in 2020 before making a high-profile move to Spanish giants Real Madrid at the start of the 2023/24 season. The 19-year-old midfielder has been with Sunderland since 2023, contributing to their efforts in the Championship.

Bellingham’s football career began at Birmingham City, where he progressed through their academy before playing two years of senior football for the club.

With his signing by Dortmund, the attacking midfielder is now slated to face Sundowns in Group F of the Club World Cup on 21 June at Cincinnati’s TQL Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 18:00.

Sundowns will kick off their tournament on 18 June [12:00], against Ulsan HD of South Korea. Three days after their clash against Dortmund, they will conclude their group stage matches against Brazilian side Fluminense on 25 June at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, with an anticipated kickoff at 21:00.
