Tau Departs Qatar SC, Becomes Free Agent

Percy Tau has officially left Qatari side Qatar SC, with the club announcing his departure on Thursday as one of six players released.

This comes despite Tau having only joined Qatar SC during the January transfer window from Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The Bafana Bafana vice-captain featured in 17 matches across all competitions for the club, but it appears his tenure was a short-term arrangement, as his current contract expires at the end of this month.

“Thank you. Wishing you success in the coming period,” Qatar SC posted on their social media platforms.

Among the other players shown the door by the Qatari club are former Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez, along with Badr Benoun, Ahmed Abd El-Kader, Ben Malango and Carlinhos Vinicious.

Tau, who boasts three CAF Champions League titles and was named the PSL Footballer of the Year in the 2017/18 season, also winning the PSL Golden Boot that same year, is now a free agent. He is currently back home in South Africa, taking a well-deserved rest.

However, it remains unclear whether he will return to play in South Africa, especially given Kaizer Chiefs’ long-standing interest in the past, or if he will choose to continue his career in the Middle East.
