The Main Goal For Orbit College

Orbit College coach Pogiso Makhoye has assured that they are aiming to retain the status of the club, as the first-time competitors of the Betway Premiership.

The newly promoted side is still adjusting to its new level in the elite league, having been promoted from the Motsepe Championship.

They managed to secure one victory and three defeats, with their latest 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.

The North West-based side currently sits in position 14 with just three points.

Makhoye has expressed his desire for a long-lasting presence in the league, more than top eight or winning the league.

“Retain the status,” said Makhoye without hesitation.

“We cannot say that we want to win the league, nor cannot say that we want to be in the top eight.

“Our priority is to make sure that this team retains the status and stays in the Betway Premier League.”

Makhoye also revealed that they never signed many experienced players, as he feels that the players who contributed to the promotion of this club deserve the opportunity.

“We have been doing this for the past 15 years. We have been developing players. To us, even if we get relegated, I mean, we didn’t buy the status. We know how we promoted this team,” said Makhoye.

“It’s all about giving these young boys a chance because if we say we must sign experienced players, where are these [Ikaneng] Ramosala, your [Siyabulela] Mabele and your [Kobamelo] Setlhodi going to get experience?”

“I think these young boys promoted this team, and they deserve to play here. I cannot judge them, especially now, because we have played four games.

“I know, even when we started last season in the MFC, after five games we had five points, but look where we ended up. We ended up being promoted, so we’re not panicking.

“It has always been our concept to develop players. We are not going to the market and say we want to buy experienced players. It’s not a question of budget; it’s about giving these boys exposure, and they’ve been with Orbit for the past 15 years, not even getting a penny.

“Now this is their moment to shine, so let us let them do that, and if we get relegated, it’s fine because they are the ones who promoted this team.”

Orbit will host TS Galaxy at Olympia Park Stadium on Saturday.
