“They Are Still Chasing Us” — Kekana Fires Warning To Pirates

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana believes that, although they are no longer the defending Betway Premiership champions, everything still revolves around the Brazilians because of the great work they have done over the years.

Sundowns dominated the league for eight consecutive seasons before Soweto giants Orlando Pirates ended their reign by winning the title last season.

However, the disappointment of losing their domestic crown was short-lived. Sundowns went on to become African champions after winning the CAF Champions League.

For years, Sundowns were the team being chased in the league. Now, having lost their title, the roles have changed, with the Brazilians finding themselves chasing rather than defending their crown.

Nevertheless, Kekana believes Sundowns remain firmly in the title race.

“They are still chasing us because everything revolves around Mamelodi Sundowns,” said Kekana.

“But that shows the great work we have done throughout the years.

“Not being the defending champions takes a bit of pressure off us, but we know that we are still in the mix, and we are chasing the league this season.”

The Brazilians sit seventh in the standings with four points from two games and will take on Marumo Gallants at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday.
