Titus Eyes Overseas Move

Stellenbosch attacker Devin Titus has set his sights on a bigger ambition than his former teammates Deano van Rooyen, Iqraam Rayners, and Jayden Adams – he dreams of playing overseas.

Van Rooyen, Rayners, and Adams all secured moves to the current top two teams in the PSL Betway Premiership: Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, respectively.

Van Rooyen was the first to depart Stellenbosch, joining Pirates at the beginning of the season. Rayners followed suit, moving to Sundowns.

Sundowns further raided Stellenbosch in the January transfer window, acquiring the influential Adams. Adams has made a significant impact for Masandawana, who are on the verge of clinching an unprecedented eighth league title.

In contrast, Titus, a key figure in Steve Barker’s youthful Stellenbosch side, which impressed in their debut CAF Confederation Cup campaign, reaching the semi-finals before their journey ended against Simba last week, has aspirations beyond the local league.

“My aspiration is to go overseas and play at the highest level,” stated Titus, who has registered an impressive 11 goals and six assists in 47 appearances across all competitions for Stellenbosch this season. “However, I’m happy at Stellenbosch because they have given me everything. So, I just want to repay that, and they know that overseas is my ultimate goal.”

He added, “[Having said that,] I think any youngster wants to do that, and I hope I can achieve it.”

While Titus and Stellenbosch’s Confederation Cup journey concluded in the semi-finals, exceeding expectations, Van Rooyen also experienced a semi-final exit in the CAF Champions League with Orlando Pirates, losing to Pyramids.

However, Adams and Rayners are set to feature in the Champions League final after Mamelodi Sundowns progressed against defending champions Al Ahly on away goals. Sundowns will now face Pyramids in the two-legged final later this month and in early June.

Titus expressed his well wishes for Adams and Rayners, who were instrumental in Stellenbosch’s Carling Knockout triumph last season – the club’s first major trophy – alongside their third-place finish in the Betway Premiership.

“They are my friends. So, hopefully, they can win it and make South Africa proud, especially since they come from Stellenbosch,” said Titus.
