Durban – Two For Joy FC were crowned champions of the fifth edition of the Khabba Cup, powered by Hollywoodbets, after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ashley United in the final at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Sunday, 7 June.
The triumph capped a demanding day for the champions, who earlier battled through a gruelling semi-final against FC Lagos to secure their place in the final.
Displaying resilience, determination, and composure throughout the tournament, Two For Joy FC overcame a strong challenge in the final to lift the coveted Khabba Cup trophy.
Winning coach TK Khoza praised his players for their commitment and perseverance throughout the day.
“I am incredibly proud of the character and determination shown by the players today. To come through a tough semi-final and then find the energy to perform again in the final speaks volumes about this team’s commitment and belief. Every player gave everything for the badge, and lifting the Khabba Cup trophy is a reward for all the hard work they have put in throughout the tournament.
“This is a special moment for the club, our supporters, and everyone who has contributed to our journey.”
The tournament finale marked the culmination of another successful edition of the Khabba Cup, which was founded by former AmaZulu FC player Manqoba Mkhize in 2021.
Over the past five years, the competition has grown into one of KwaZulu-Natal’s premier amateur football tournaments, attracting teams from across the province and beyond while drawing the attention of scouts searching for emerging football talent.
Tournament founder and organiser Manqoba Mkhize attributed the competition’s continued growth to the support of the community, participating teams, and sponsors.
“Reaching the fifth edition of the Khabba Cup is a significant milestone and a testament to the tournament’s growth over the years. What began as a platform to showcase local football talent has evolved into one of the most anticipated community football events, attracting teams and supporters from across the country.
“Congratulations to Two For Joy FC on a well-deserved victory, and sincere thanks to our sponsors, partners, participating teams, and fans for their continued support in helping us grow the Khabba Cup year after year.”
Hollywoodbets Senior Sponsorship Coordinator Menzi Ngcobo highlighted the tournament’s impact on grassroots football development.
“The Khabba Cup has become much more than a football tournament; it is a platform that allows players to showcase their talent, gain exposure, and pursue their dreams. At Hollywoodbets, we are proud to support initiatives that strengthen grassroots football, create opportunities within communities, and help identify the next generation of stars.
“The growth of this tournament over the past five years is a testament to the passion, dedication, and commitment of everyone involved.”
