Usuthu Boss Upset Over Mobara Suspension Handling

AmaZulu coach Pablo Franco Martin is fuming over the way the PSL handled Abbubaker Mobara’s suspension.

Mobara was controversially sent off during the league match against Orlando Pirates on 29 April at Orlando Stadium. Replays showed Mobara appeared to win the ball from Patrick Maswanganyi, but referee Cedric Muvhali dismissed him for a perceived clear goalscoring opportunity.

Martin and AmaZulu were incensed by the decision. They appealed the red card and Martin even called for Muvhali’s suspension for the rest of the season.

However, the PSL seemingly upheld the red card, and Mobara missed the following three matches as this was his second red card this term. Martin believes this is a significant injustice.

“I think when we are talking about the situation of Mobara, it’s not possible not to mention how unfair it was not having him for three games, and you are not committing a foul, it is clear and everyone is seeing it,” said Martin during the club’s media day at Kings Park Stadium on Thursday.

“You are trying to appeal, and you are not even receiving an announcement for one week and after that, the answer is no. (To me, it seems like) we have the right to keep the injustice going and that is what happened. I’m counting for three weeks, three games for our key player. I think it was too much from something that he didn’t do.”

Thankfully for AmaZulu, Mobara will be available again when they host Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday (17:30).

“Now, he is coming back like the other ones such as Celimpilo Ngema. We are always happy,” said Martin, whose side lost 3-0 in the first round to Cavin Johnson’s side.

“We will have huge depth in this squad. Any time when you get players back it is a matter of joy for us.”
