Usuthu Snag Highly-Rated Left-Back From Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch has confirmed the permanent transfer of left-back Omega Mdaka to AmaZulu FC.

Mdaka, who joined Stellenbosch in 2024, has completed a move to Usuthu as the Durban-based club strengthens its options at left-back ahead of the new season.

In a statement, Stellenbosch thanked the 22-year-old for his contribution during his time in the Winelands.

“Stellenbosch FC has bid farewell to defender Omega Mdaka, who has completed a permanent transfer to AmaZulu FC,” the club said.

“Mdaka joined the Maroons in 2024 and enjoyed a goalscoring debut against Nsingizini Hotspurs in the CAF Confederation Cup before going on to make 51 appearances for the club across all competitions.

“During his spell in the Winelands, the 22-year-old helped Stellenbosch FC reach back-to-back MTN8 finals, and he was nominated for the club’s Young Player of the Season award in 2026.

“Everyone at Stellenbosch FC thanks Omega for his contributions and wishes him every success in the next chapter of his career.”

Mdaka becomes the latest high-profile departure from Stellenbosch during the current transfer window. He follows Mthetheleni Mthiyane, who joined Orlando Pirates, while Ibraheem Jabaar also departed after his contract was not renewed.

Several other players have also left the club, including Oscarine Masuluke, Lee Langeveldt (retired), Dejean Ah Shene, Thabo Moloisane, Athenkosi Mcaba, Kazie Enyinnaya, Wayde Jooste, Olisa Ndah and Khomotjo Lekoloane.

In addition, Tshegofatso Mabasa has returned to his parent club following the expiry of his loan spell, while Kobamelo Kodisang and Asekho Tiwani have both returned to Mamelodi Sundowns after their respective loan deals ended. Kyle Jurgens completed a permanent move to Durban City.

During his two seasons at Stellenbosch, Mdaka made 51 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

His energetic displays and consistent performances established him as one of the club’s promising young defenders, and AmaZulu will hope he can make a similar impact at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
