Why Maswanganyi’s Middle East Transfer Demands A Tactical & Mental Reset

South African football legend Mlungisi Ngubane has expressed concern over Patrick Maswanganyi’s attitude, warning that the former Orlando Pirates star will need to change his approach to football following his move abroad.

Maswanganyi left Pirates to join Bahrain Premier League side Alkhaldiya Sports Club, with the Buccaneers confirming his departure on Monday.

Ngubane believes Pirates will miss the fan favourite but says the talented midfielder needs to take his football more seriously if he is to fulfil his potential.

“They will,” Ngubane said.

“But my advice to Maswanganyi is that he must change his attitude. He must take football seriously because he is talented. Sometimes you don’t see his talent because he takes football for granted.

“He must be very serious because he has a lot to offer. We haven’t seen the best of him. Maybe now that he’s going overseas, we are going to see the best of him because he will be out of his comfort zone.”

Ngubane added that Maswanganyi’s move abroad could force him to change his attitude, insisting that there is little room for complacency when playing overseas.

“They will change his attitude,” said Ngubane, who previously coached Maritzburg United and Bush Bucks.

“Overseas, they don’t play. They give you a contract and they give you the money you want, but there is no room for error. You can’t do as you wish. He is going to change.

“All I want from him is that he must stay humble and disciplined because coaches abroad are no joke.”
