Williams: I’m Lost For Words

Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has paid tribute to head coach Hugo Broos following South Africa’s emphatic victory over Rwanda at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The win sealed Bafana Bafana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
It marks South Africa’s first World Cup qualification since 2002 — although they featured in the 2010 tournament as the host nation.
Despite suffering a minor setback when FIFA deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, earlier in the campaign, Bafana still managed to finish top of Group C with 18 points, becoming the ninth African nation to secure a place at next year’s global showpiece.
Under Broos’ leadership, the South African football landscape has seen significant improvement. Bafana Bafana clinched bronze at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and have now qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 23 years.
Williams was full of praise for the Belgian tactician and his technical team after the historic achievement.
“It’s amazing — I’m lost for words. I don’t know what to say. This is what dreams are made of,” said Williams.
“Just to see the support, to see Bafana Bafana uniting the country — it’s incredible. Kudos to the players, to the technical team, to coach Hugo. It’s amazing what you’ve done for South African football.
“See you guys in the USA.”
