Williams: We Can’t Question The Club’s Decision

Mamelodi Sundowns vice captain Ronwen Williams has admitted that it was not easy to see the departure of his former coaches Rulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi in the Tshwane giant.

The Brazilians parted ways with Mokwena at the end of last season, after failing to win the CAF Champions League, MTN8, Carling Knockout, and the Nedbank Cup. The former Orlando Pirates assistant coach joined Wydad Athletic Club immediately after leaving Sundowns.

Sundowns gave Mngqithi a chance to coach the Tshwane giant but the club decided to part ways with him this week. The Brazilians chose to hire the Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso. Williams just shared his thoughts about the changing of coaches in Bafana Ba Style.

The former SuperSport United goalkeeper said that it was not easy losing both coaches but they accepted things as they are. “Obviously it’s not easy to lose such a family member,” Williams said.

“But being in football, it’s our job and we need to be professionals. At the beginning it was tough, but the guys [players] know they have a job to do at Mamelodi Sundowns.

“We can’t question the decisions, we just have to do what we can do which it’s to play football. We need to be the best and take Mamelodi Sundowns to the next level.”

Meanwhile, the Brazilians are set to face the Moroccan giant Raja Club Athletic on Sunday in the Champions League. The Bafana Bafana captain said the new coach didn’t change a lot in their style of playing as they are going to face Raja.

“The coach said he is not going to change much but will change small things because we don’t have enough time,” added Williams.

“That’s what we’ve been doing in the three days, just polishing our way of playing, our defensive, attack, and trying to be one team.”

“Obviously the coach watched some of our games, he knows how we play and he analyzed us. “He knows our qualities, but he is coming with his qualities and ideas as well. The guys are adapting very well and obviously, we hope we can do well on Sunday with the short time we had.”

Both Sundowns and Raja are yet to register their first wins in the group stage of the Champions League this season. The home side has two draws in two games, while Raja has one loss and one draw after two games.
