Zwane Feels The Pressure After Consecutive Losses

AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane acknowledged the mounting pressure on the team following their fourth defeat in the last five matches in the Betway Premiership.

Despite having suffered 13 losses and secured 10 wins since the beginning of the 2024/25 season, the KwaZulu-Natal-based club still occupies a place in the top eight, currently sitting seventh with 33 points after 26 matches.

Zwane, the former Kaizer Chiefs coach, has recorded two victories since taking over as the sole head coach following the departure of his co-coach, Vusumuzi Vilakazi.

“These games, they don’t come easy,” Zawne said.

“It’s more than six points; we know the importance of getting maximum points. I think I wouldn’t want to repeat myself in terms of where we are and where we’re supposed to be.

“We had ample time to consolidate or put ourselves in a better position by now on the log. But dropping three games in a row has also put us under pressure. So we put ourselves in this position, like we did in the past. We’re going to have to take ourselves out.

“The only opportunity we have is to make sure that we go to Hammarsdale regardless of whether the pitch will be playable or not. The important thing is for us to go there with one thing in mind, that we want to grind the results,” he added.

Zwane emphasized his hope that the team will secure maximum points in their remaining fixtures to guarantee a top-eight finish in the league.

“We’re just hoping we’ll get the maximum points, though it’s not going to be an easy one. We’ve played more games than anyone else, so that’s why we must make sure we get maximum points in all the remaining games so that at least we secure a top eight spot,” he said.

Usuthu has three league games left and aims to secure three points against their Durban rivals, Golden Arrows, on Saturday. The Golden Arrows are currently four points behind them in tenth position, following a goalless draw when the two sides met in early January.
