Zwane To Miss The Club World Cup? Cardoso Replies

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has provided the latest update about the injury of his captain Themba Zwane who has missed several games due to his injury.

The former Mpumalanga Black Aces midfielder suffered his injury in their Bafana Bafana 1-1 draw against Congo Brazzaville in Congo last year in October.

Since then, the 35-year-old Bafana Bafana has been sidelined for many games for Sundowns. Zwane is yet to play his first game under Miguel Cardoso who joined the Brazilians in December 2024 when he replaced Manqoba Mngqithi.

“For sure, Themba will recover in time, not only for the Club World Cup but to play more games,” Cardoso said after their 4-1 victory against TS Galaxy on Saturday.

“So, we have a lot of expectations from him as soon as he recovers. Even Mothobi Mvala, Divine Lunga, and Khuliso Mudau, in different steps, they come much stronger.

“He can train but we’ll wait for him until he’s able to perform. There are a lot of steps to do, so we should understand that even he is training with the team.

“This process will work a little bit longer, but this process is working very well. He is working well and the team doctors are working very well with him because there’s a lot of expectations from him.

“Let’s hope he recovers soon so that he can play in the World Cup.”

The Brazilians have been using different players in Mshishi’s position, while the Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos was playing with the 2023/24 midfielder of the season Maswanganyi.
