Sundowns Thump Galaxy To Get Sweet Revenge

Mamelodi Sundowns got sweet revenge as they crushed TS Galaxy 4-1 in the Betway Premiership match at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday evening.

Sundowns came to this game having lost to Galaxy last week. They came to this game with the hope of getting an act of revenge and fortunately, luck was on their side.

The four goals of the home side were scored by Peter Shalulile, Jayden Adams, and Iqraam Rayners who scored a brace. Galaxy’s goal was scored by Sphiwe Mahlangu. Both teams started this game on a high foot as they were outstanding in the first 15 minutes. The Brazilians got an early goal in the first minute through the Namibian talisman Shalulile.

It was not yet enough as the former Stellenbosch attacker Rayners scored the second goal in the seventh minute. After Rayners’ goal, the Rockets got a great goal in the 10th minute through Mahlangu. In the 25th minute, both the Tshwane giant and the Rockets suffered a blow. Victor Letsoalo got a straight red card for fouling Bathusi Aubaas who sustained an injury, and was replaced by Teboho Mokoena.

The tempo of the visitors started to decrease after the red card. Miguel Cardoso’s side used that advantage and increased their lead in the 38th minute with a great goal from Adams after Shalulile’s shot was blocked by Marks Munyai.

Sundowns came back very strong in the second half, and fortunately, they got a fourth goal within five minutes through Rayners who scored a brace. Shalulile’s almost great bicycle kick in the 53rd minute fell shot and went over the bar.

Cardoso made three early changes as he introduced Arthur Sales, Kobamelo Kodisang, and Kutlwano Letlhaku – taking off Rayners, Marcelo Allende, and Lucas Ribeiro. Sales got a chance after he was introduced but unfortunately, his shot was saved by Ira Tape. The Rockets struggled the whole second half and they didn’t even get some shots at goal.

This victory sees the Brazilians re-establishing a 12-point lead to Orlando Pirates who are lying in the second position with 36 points, following their victory against Cape Town City on Saturday afternoon.

Pirates still have three games in hand as they’ve played only 15 games while Sundowns played 18 games. The Brazilians will now travel to Limpopo as they will be facing Sekhukhune United in their next game on Wednesday.

After that, the Brazilians will face a struggling Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday where they will be hoping to beat Amakhosi twice in the league this season as they beat them in the first round at FNB Stadium, Soweto.
