Hotspurs Coach Warns Stellies: The Tie Is Not Over

The tie between Nsingizini Hotspurs and Stellenbosch FC appears to be over in favour of Steve Barker’s side after a 3-0 victory in the first leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

However, Hotspurs coach Alexio Segion remains hopeful.

He admitted that his side made errors that Stellenbosch capitalised on during Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first leg match. The second leg will also be played at the same venue on Saturday.

When asked about his team’s chances of a comeback and the necessary motivation, Segion responded, “This game of magnitude is motivation of its own.” He emphasized the similar circumstances of both teams, as both finished third in their respective leagues and were unable to host matches in their home countries.

“Right now, they are already motivated to play in CAF. It’s a stage where they have ambition,” Segion said. “We have to return to the drawing board, capitalize on what we’ve learned, and come back strong because the game is still on. We lost, but we might win this week. We take this loss as motivation.”

Segion dismissed the notion that playing away from home was a factor in the defeat, stating, “Stellenbosch are also not playing at home. They were better organised than us and they won. We can’t make excuses. We had fans cheering us on, which was good support.”
