Truter Concerned Over Goal-Scoring Woes

Richards Bay coach Brandon Truter has expressed his concern over the team’s lack of goalscoring ability. He questioned his players’ determination and drive to change the course of a game when things aren’t going their way.
“If you don’t have that inner drive and determination, you’re playing the wrong sport,” Truter emphasized.
The club, which narrowly avoided relegation last season, has scored only one league goal in seven matches this season. Despite not being in immediate danger, their defensive record of five goals conceded has them languishing in 12th place in the Betway Premiership.
The goal-scoring woes aren’t limited to the league. In the Carling Knockout, where they reached the semifinals before being eliminated by Magesi FC, they scored only one goal, a deflection from a set piece. This leaves them with a paltry total of two goals in 10 matches across all competitions.
“That’s the problem,” said Truter on his side struggling to score goals.
“Because when you look at the coach to motivates you, then you have nothing to think about. I can teach you football, I can teach you everything, but when you don’t have these ingredients – the will, the determination, the motivation, the drive – it’s inside, that I can’t coach.
“Some players, I’m not talking about my boys at Richards Bay, but in general, some players are okay to lose. What you look for a coach to say ‘do that, do that, motivate, let’s go’, then you are in the wrong sport. You are in this sport to win, to win all the time.
“You find coaches on the touchline screaming. The moment the coach is quiet, can you play without him? That’s the question that we need to ask and look at everybody. Because, why are we coaching you during the week if you can’t transfer what we did in training to the game?
“Then you have a problem and this level is too high for you.”
Following the international break, Richards Bay will face a tough test against Kaizer Chiefs at Peter Mokaba Stadium on 27 November. Truter will hope that the team can address their goal-scoring issues and put in a strong performance.
