Adams Credits Teammates For Seamless Sundowns Transition

Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Jayden Adams believes his seamless integration into the club is attributed to the high caliber of players he is surrounded by.

Adams joined Sundowns from Stellenbosch during the January transfer window and has made an immediate impact with consistent strong performances. The 23-year-old, who signed a contract with Sundowns until 2028, has featured in 17 matches and scored three goals.

Notably, he netted the decisive winner in extra time during Sundowns’ Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash against Sekhukhune United late last month.

His other goals came in commanding 3-0 and 4-1 victories for Sundowns against SuperSport United and TS Galaxy, respectively, in the Betway Premiership.

Furthermore, Adams showcased his scoring prowess on the international stage, finding the net for Bafana Bafana in both their 2-0 victories during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March – against Lesotho in Polokwane and against Benin at a neutral venue in Ivory Coast.

Ahead of Sundowns’ CAF Champions League first-leg semi-final against Al Ahly at Loftus Stadium on Saturday, Adams explained what has facilitated his swift adaptation and goal-scoring form for his new club.

“I think it is the players,” Adams stated. “I play with them in the national team. Initially, it wasn’t easy to come here and perform like this. But the players have encouraged me a lot; they give me confidence, and credit goes to them and the coaches.”

This positive experience contrasts sharply with earlier media speculation suggesting that Adams was jeopardizing his career by joining Sundowns due to concerns about playing time – predictions he has since proven wrong.

However, a move to a club like Sundowns, constantly competing on both domestic and international fronts, was likely inevitable. At the end of the current season, they are also set to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

“I think Sundowns had been looking at me for a while now,” Adams revealed. “My agent called me when I was at home and told me I should pack my bags for the next day. I was a bit upset because it was such short notice. I think I spoke to my girlfriend, as she lives with me and is close to me. Unfortunately, I had to do my job.”

Adams has since relocated his family to Johannesburg, a move he believes has significantly aided his smooth transition with Sundowns.

“I think that has helped a lot because having your loved ones around you makes you feel at home. When you go to the field, you just do your best, and the team will do their best,” he concluded.
