Chiefs Clinch First-Ever DDC Title

Kaizer Chiefs claimed their maiden DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] title with a game to spare following a commanding 3-0 victory over Magesi FC at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday.
Imaad Hendricks broke the deadlock to give the host team a lead heading into the halftime break before Nkosana Mbuthu doubled the lead in the second half. Thulani Mabaso rounded up the scoring in the final 10 minutes for a healthy 3-0 deficit.
Amakhosi collected 67 points in 27 league outings. Overall, the Soweto giants picked up 21 wins with four draws and two defeats. Vela Khumalo’s charges opened a seven-point lead at the summit of the table.
Chiefs were awarded three points and a 3-0 scoreline courtesy of a walkover after Chippa United failed to honour their fixture on 3 February 2025. Moreover, the Chilli Boys were also charged for fielding an ineligible player against Marumo Gallants.
The Glamour Boys will officially lift their trophy when they take on AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium next Saturday, to officially become the first team from Soweto to etch their name on the winners’ list of the reserve league.
Chiefs’ triumph will provide a pathway for more DDC players to break into the first team with a host of talented youngsters, including Neo Bohloko, Naledi Hlongwane, Kabelo Nkgwesa, Aden McCarthy, and Takalani Mazahamba, amongst others, already tipped for a promotion to the senior team.
Meanwhile, second-placed Stellenbosch FC saw their hopes of retaining the championship get completely dashed after suffering a 3-0 defeat to struggling Marumo Gallants at Idas Valley Sports Ground on the same day.
The Cape Winelands outfit remains on course to finish as runners-up to the Naturena-based team, having gathered 60 points from 27 matches with one match left to conclude the season. Stellies will wrap up their 2024/25 campaign with a visit to TS Galaxy on Saturday, 03 May.
