Mvala Calls On Experienced Players To Lead Charge

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mothobi Mvala has issued a rallying cry to the team’s seasoned players, urging them to step up and take responsibility in the crucial Champions League final second leg against Pyramids FC.

The decisive encounter kicks off this Sunday at the 30 June Stadium in Egypt [19:00].

Following a 1-1 draw at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Pyramids FC holds the advantage with a vital away goal, putting pressure on Sundowns. A goalless draw would see Pyramids claim the Champions League title, while a Sundowns victory or a high-scoring draw (2-2 or higher) would secure the trophy for the Tshwane Giants.

A 1-1 draw, however, would force the match into a penalty shootout.

Mvala emphasized the need for veteran leadership, particularly in the dressing room, to motivate the squad. He also highlighted Pyramids’ lack of home support as a potential advantage for Sundowns.

“We really need the experienced players to come to the party, especially in the changing room, to push the guys to win the game,” said Mvala.

“It’s not going to be an easy game, and you know, Pyramids, we’ve played them before [last season in the group stages] and we got the results that side and knowing that they don’t have supporters, it’s something that is going to be in our advantage a little bit.

“I think we just need to grind the results and fight from minute one to the last minute,” he added.

The 30-year-old defender also expressed his joy at being back on the field after recovering from an ankle injury sustained last December during a clash against AS FAR in the same competition.

“It feels great to be back on the field,” Mvala shared. “I’m happy that I recovered very well, and getting minutes on the field truly feels great. I’m happy to be back.”
