Motsepe’s Rallying Cry On Sundowns Players After Champions League Final Loss

Mamelodi Sundowns chairman, Thlopie Motsepe, delivered a stirring message to his team following their narrow defeat to Pyramids in the CAF Champions League final on Sunday.
Despite the heartbreak of coming so close to continental glory, Motsepe’s words were a testament to the team’s remarkable journey and the collective effort that has brought them to the pinnacle of African football.
“Never take it for granted, guys, how important to be here and how hard you guys have worked, and how hard everybody has worked to bring this team to this point,” Motsepe said.
“But I want to tell you guys that we, as the management and the board, are so proud of you guys. We haven’t been here for long, you’re the group that has taken us to the doorstep of greatness.”
Motsepe’s message was one of encouragement and faith, urging the players to believe in themselves and their abilities.
“It’s important that you understand that the people at this table and the people around you, we all believe and we have so much faith in you,” he emphasized.
The Sundowns’ chairman also highlighted the team’s distinctive style of play, which has become synonymous with the club.
“For us in this tournament, we had to win each game,” he said.
“The pressure of winning was high to get where we are, and we have to enjoy the moment because there’s no team that can stop you guys if you enjoy your football.
“When you play the way you play, when you play the way the whole continent knows how Mamelodi Sundowns play, no one will stop you.”
Motsepe’s words were not just a message of support but also a call to action, urging the team to savor the moment and trust in their abilities.
“So, I just want to tell you guys in front of everybody here that we are behind you, we trust you completely, and we know your ability, and when you enjoy your moment, nobody can come to you,” he declared.
In a nod to the staff and everyone who has contributed to the team’s journey, Motsepe expressed his gratitude and appreciation.
“Again, I want to say to everybody in the staff, everybody that has taken us to this point; you’ve played such an important role in this club history and we need to be together, we need to support these guys and we need to make them understand that we believe in them completely.
Sundowns now prepare to represent Africa at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which starts on 14 June until 15 July. They will face Ulsan, Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense in Group F.
