Shinga Feeling At Home With Chiefs, Eyes Trophy Glory

Nkanyiso Shinga, the newly signed Kaizer Chiefs left-back, has expressed his excitement and gratitude about joining the Soweto giants.

The 24-year-old, who has been playing abroad for the past seven years, was signed from Alverca in Portugal, where he played 22 games and helped the club gain promotion to the Liga Portugal, the top-tier league in Portugal.

Shinga, who was born in Durban and came through the famed KZN Academy, said that joining Chiefs was a dream come true for him.

“Here I feel at home, and it was always my dream to play for this team. I know some challenges are going to come, and I know it’s not easy to play for this team,” he said.

“I’m feeling grateful, I’m excited also, and I feel ready to fight for this badge. As I said, it’s always a dream for me to play for this team and to fight for this badge. I also want to win some trophies with this team because I really love this team so much.”

Shinga will face stiff competition for the left-back position, with players like Bradley Cross, Happy Mashiane, and newly signed Paseka Mako from Orlando Pirates vying for the spot.

However, Shinga is confident in his abilities and believes that he can make a significant impact on the team.

The young defender was also impressed by his team’s performances during their preseason tour in the Netherlands, where they played five games, losing four and winning one. 

Shinga played almost all of the games and was impressed by the team’s potential.

“My team is too good for what I see and for what I see, like each day in the trainings, and in the games,” he added.

“I can see that we have the potential to arrive where we want to arrive. So, I feel a good energy, I feel easy for me to learn and to join the team.”

Shinga and his team will kick-start the 2025/26 season against Stellenbosch on the 10th of August in the Betway Premiership at Athlone Stadium.

Before that game, the Phefeni Glamour Boyz will first play the Toyota Cup against the Ghanaian giant Asante Kotoko at Moses Mabhida Stadium next Saturday.
