Jooste Reveals Why He Joined Stellies

Former AmaZulu defender Wayde Jooste has revealed the reasons behind his decision to join Stellenbosch, citing the club’s success and a timely call from coach Steve Barker as key factors in his choice.
Stellies announced the signing of Jooste on Thursday, as he was without a club following his departure from Usuthu at the end of last season after spending two seasons with AmaZulu, where he played 45 games, scoring one goal and assisting two goals.
Despite not having a club for the rest of the first half of this season, Jooste managed to play official games in August in the Bafana Bafana squad that participated in the CHAN tournament in Uganda.
Speaking after his announcement to the 2023 Carling Knockout champions, Jooste told the club’s media department why he decided to join Stellies.
“Stellenbosch is a club that I have admired for some time,” Jooste said.
“It’s a club that has been very successful in the last few seasons, and it’s special for me to become part of that.
“A few weeks ago, I got a call from coach Steve (Barker), and he asked me if I would be interested, and I don’t even think he finished his question before I said yes.
“I’ve been praying and believing that something will come up for me, and something as good as this I could never say no to. I’m honoured and privileged to be part of the club.”
The experienced defender, who helped Orlando Pirates win the MTN8 Cup during the 2020/21 season, will be looking to make his debut for Stellies on January 20 against Sekhukhune United after the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations.
