Stellenbosch Loan Out Defender After Coaching Change

Stellenbosch has sent defender Turan Manafov out on loan, with the Azerbaijani returning to his home country after joining the club from Kapaz.

Things initially looked promising for Manafov under former head coach Steve Barker, but circumstances have changed since Gavin Hunt took over, prompting a move during the current transfer window.

As a result, Stellenbosch and Hunt have decided to loan out the left-back for the remainder of the season.

“Stellenbosch FC can confirm that Turan Manafov has returned to Azerbaijan, where he will spend the remainder of the 2025/26 season on loan with Gabala FC,” the club said in a statement.

“The 27-year-old joined Stellenbosch at the start of the current campaign and made 10 appearances across all competitions, including the Betway Premiership, Carling Knockout, and CAF Confederation Cup.

“The club wishes Turan every success during his loan spell.”

Hunt is expected to rely on Omega Mdaka, who has made the left-back position his own. However, the club is still in the market for another left-back, especially with their continued involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Stellenbosch are currently in Algeria, where they will face CR Belouizdad at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki on Sunday.
