Ouaddou Frustrated To See Pirates Held By Sekhukhune

Orlando Pirates coach Abdelsam Ouaddou says his side was unlucky not to score as they were held to a frustrating goalless draw in the Betway Premiership match at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
The Buccaneers missed the opportunity to return to the top of the Betway Premiership standings after failing to secure maximum points. They are now level on 29 points with log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns after 13 matches, although Pirates still have a game in hand.
Kamogelo Sebelele, making his first appearance since October, came close to snatching a late winner in the dying minutes, but Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner produced a fine save to deny Pirates all three points.
The former Maritzburg United shot-stopper also kept out Oswin Appollis as Pirates camped in Sekhukhune’s half in search of a breakthrough against a well-organised defence.
The result means Sekhukhune United collected four points from Pirates this season, having beaten the Soweto giants 1–0 in the opening league fixture at Orlando Stadium in August through a goal from Siphesihle Mkhize.
Speaking after the match on SuperSport TV, Ouaddou praised his players’ performance despite the lack of goals.
“The players played a great game in terms of intensity and in creating chances in both the first and second halves,” said Ouaddou.
“Unfortunately, the ball just didn’t want to go into the net. That’s football. To be honest, I have nothing to reproach my players for. They gave everything and were disciplined.
“Technically and tactically, we were on point, and we played against a very good team. Of course, we are a bit disappointed because we deserved to win the game.
“But we must give credit to Sekhukhune for how well organised they were and for their team spirit. I’m not worried. If we continue to play like this, we will keep improving and winning games.”
During the January transfer window, Pirates signed Mpho Chabatsani and Daniel Msendami from Marumo Gallants, as well as Andre de Jong from Stellenbosch FC. Chabatsani was named on the bench on Saturday.
Ouaddou confirmed that the new signings are ready and will soon make their debuts as Pirates continue their pursuit of the treble and their first league title since the 2011/12 season.
“I was happy with their preparation. They were with us in camp, so they are fit and ready,” he said.
“They just need to wait for the moment when the team and the coach need them. They will definitely help us. I’m pleased with what I saw in camp in terms of their qualities.
“We have a scouting department that identifies players who fit our identity and qualities, and soon you will see them on the pitch.”
