“He Was There”: Ben Youssef Singles Out One Amakhosi Star After Soweto Derby Drama

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef lauded the “exceptional character” of goalkeeper Brandon Petersen after his Man of the Match display secured a 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates on Sunday.

Chiefs entered the match determined to avoid another defeat to Pirates, with Petersen producing several crucial saves to keep his side in the game and ultimately earning the Man of the Match award.

The Glamour Boys held Pirates to a draw, frustrating their opponents, who had hoped to secure another three points after their 3–0 victory in the reverse fixture.

Chiefs managed to take just one point from Pirates during the 2025/26 campaign.

“I think it was a tactical game. It wasn’t easy,” he said.

“We created some opportunities, but we struggled to score. Petersen was there, and I’m very happy with his performance.

“I’m also pleased with the team overall — they showed strong character.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t win the game, but we will continue to fight.”

Chiefs are currently third on the table with 47 points after 25 matches.
