Kaze Vows Chiefs Will “Rise Up” Against Sundowns After Shock Loss

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has issued a stern warning to Mamelodi Sundowns as the Soweto giants look to return to winning ways when they travel to face the Brazilians in their next Betway Premiership clash.

Amakhosi head into the encounter on the back of a disappointing 2–0 defeat to Siwelele on Wednesday night, a result that ended their seven-match unbeaten run.

Prior to that loss, they had recorded five wins and two draws, including a stalemate against Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby last weekend.

Despite the setback, Amakhosi remain third on the table with 47 points from 26 matches, as they aim to secure a strong finish in the league this season.

Speaking after the loss to Siwelele, Kaze admitted the result was disappointing but stressed that the team is determined to respond against Sundowns.

“We still have four games left and, as we said before, we want to finish as high as we can,” he said.

“The positive for us is that the next game, against Sundowns, is a big one. We will do everything to respond and show our character. It is a very important match that can help put us back on the right track.

“This loss is a disappointment for everyone, but we hope the next game will be seen as an opportunity to rise and show that this club belongs at the top.”

The Burundian mentor added that, despite the defeat, their primary objective for the season remains unchanged as they continue to push for a place in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

“I would say our main objective is to finish as high as we can,” he added.

“It is true that the result against Siwelele has put our ambitions under pressure.

“But we need to bounce back. This loss was not about complacency—we simply didn’t have the right mindset going into the game, and we were not good from the start.”

The Phefeni Glamour Boys will travel to Loftus Versfeld Stadium next Wednesday, where they will be aiming to get back to winning ways and continue their push toward their season objectives.

Meanwhile, the Brazilians will also be looking to strengthen their title hopes after returning to the top of the standings following their win over Polokwane City on Wednesday.
