“All Roads Lead To Dundee July”

KZN MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Mntomuhle Khawula has predicted astronomical growth for the 2026 Dundee July Traditional Horse Racing event, scheduled for the third week of July following the conclusion of the Nkandla May festival.

Set to take place during the third week of July, the Dundee July has steadily evolved into more than just a traditional horse racing event. It has become a celebration of culture, heritage, fashion, music, and community spirit, while also positioning itself as an important economic driver for the province.
The annual gathering continues to attract thousands of spectators, horse racing enthusiasts, local businesses, and tourism stakeholders, all eager to be part of the vibrant experience. From traditional horse racing competitions to cultural showcases and entertainment, the event has become a symbol of unity and pride for many communities in KwaZulu-Natal.
Khawula’s remarks highlighted the province’s belief in the event’s potential to grow into one of South Africa’s premier cultural sporting attractions. The MEC also called on jockeys and equestrian support teams to intensify their preparations ahead of the highly anticipated showdown, underlining the level of competition expected this year.
Preparations are already gaining momentum, with organisers aiming to deliver an unforgettable experience for attendees. Local businesses are also expected to benefit significantly from the influx of visitors, with increased opportunities for traders, accommodation establishments, transport operators, and tourism-related enterprises.
Over the years, the Dundee July has earned a reputation for blending the excitement of horse racing with authentic cultural expression, making it unique within South Africa’s sporting landscape. The event’s growing popularity on social media has also helped expand its reach to younger audiences and visitors from different parts of the country.
