Shalulile Leaves Sundowns After Trophy-Laden Six Years

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the departure of legendary striker Peter Shalulile, bringing an end to a trophy-laden six-year stay with Chloorkop.

Shalulile’s contract with the Brazilians expired last month. The club opted against a renewal following a challenging campaign where the veteran marksman saw diminished game time. Despite Sundowns conquering the continent to lift the CAF Champions League title last season, the Namibian international found himself on the periphery of the squad.

The 32-year-old’s playing time took a major hit following the January arrival of Colombian forward Brayan León. Shalulile subsequently endured the leanest spell of his Premier Soccer League (PSL) career, registering just six goals and a solitary assist in 23 appearances across all competitions.

The Brave Warriors captain had already dropped hints about a departure at the end of the 2024/25 season. At the time, Shalulile admitted to holding exit talks with management before being persuaded to return for one final term. However, Sundowns have now officially parted ways with the lethal frontman, who leaves behind an indelible legacy as the greatest goalscorer the modern South African game has ever seen.

Combining his breakthrough years at Highlands Park with his glittering spell in Pretoria, Shalulile leaves Chloorkop as the PSL’s all-time top goalscorer, boasting an astonishing 136 goals and 35 assists in 313 professional appearances.

During his relentless six-year stint at Sundowns, Shalulile captured five Premiership titles, the CAF Champions League, the Nedbank Cup, the MTN8, and the inaugural African Football League (AFL). On an individual level, his dominance was unmatched, clinching the PSL Footballer of the Season award twice and walking away with four PSL Golden Boot accolades.

While his next destination remains unconfirmed, the legendary Namibian target man will certainly not be short of elite suitors across the continent and abroad.
