“My First Home Outside Zim” — Musona On Emotional Kaizer Chiefs Reunion

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona has spoken of the nostalgia of returning to South Africa ahead of Sunday’s Toyota Cup clash against Amakhosi, saying he feels honoured to be back.

Musona will face his former club after travelling to South Africa with Scottland FC, who won the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League title last season.

The 36-year-old is one of two former Chiefs players in the Scottland squad, alongside fellow Zimbabwean Khama Billiat.

Musona enjoyed a successful spell with Chiefs after joining the club in 2009 before earning a move to German side Hoffenheim in 2011. He later returned for a second stint with Amakhosi before departing permanently in 2014.

During his first spell, Musona helped Chiefs win back-to-back Carling Knockout titles. He scored in the 2009/10 final against Cape Town Spurs in Durban and and helped Chiefs win in the 2010/11 final against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium.

Across his two spells at Naturena, Musona scored 40 goals and provided 13 assists in 88 appearances.

Reflecting on his return, Musona said it was special to be back in South Africa and expressed his gratitude to Chiefs for giving him the platform to launch his professional career.

“As for me, it’s a great honour,” said Musona.

“It feels good to be back. This was my first home outside Zimbabwe, and I’m so grateful to Kaizer Chiefs because they gave me the platform when I was young to showcase my talent.

“From here I went abroad, so I’m very happy and very honoured to be back here and to play against the team that gave me that platform.”

Chiefs is yet to win the Toyota Cup, having lost to Young Africa in 2024 and last year to Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko.
